DISPOSAL OF COMPUTERS AND OTHER E-WASTE

Nipigon District Memorial Hospital supports good global and corportate citizenship.  The Hospital is aware of the potential impact on the environment in relationship to proper handling of waste materials. The Hospital, understanding that E-waste contains hazardous materials, is committed to reduciing the amount of waste directed towards local landfills and intends to recycle Phase 1 E-waste whenever possible.

Phase 1 E-waste materials include desktop and laptop computers, peripherals (mice, keyboards and disk drives), monitors and TVs, desktop printers and fax machines.

It is the responsibility of all staff at NDMH to divert E-waste to the appropriate storage locations throughout the facility, Maintenace and IT Departments, for further disposal through Pack Pros Plus.  Prior to disposal, IT staff will ensure that a computer's hard drive is removed and/or wiped clean.  The Maintenance Department will arrange for the pick up and/or delivery of E-waste no less than one time per year.

Pack Pros Plus Ltd. is certified by the Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES) to divert electronic waste from local landfills and currently is the only certified collection facility in NWO.  NDMH intends to partner with Pack Pros Plus Ltd. for the purpose of disposing of E-waste.
