How Does a Lifeline Unit Work?
You will be issued a necklace or bracelet to wear. Pressing the personal HELP button on the device will connect you to the Response Centre located at the Nursing Station of the Nipigon Hospital.
A hospital staff member will immediately respond to you over the telephone.

- If you have accidentally pressed the HELP button, you will be instructed as to how to reset it.
- If you are able to speak for yourself, a hospital staff member will assess your need and call a Responder (someone you designated when you registered), if needed.
If a Responder is called, the hospital staff will stay on the line with you until your Responder arrives.
If medical attention is required, the Nipigon Hospital, or if necessary, an ambulance will be dispatched using 911.
- If you are unable to speak for yourself, the hospital staff member will call a Responder to your residence. The staff member will remain on the line until the Responder arrives.
If medical attention is required, your Responder may bring you to the Nipigon Hospital, or if necessary, an ambulance will be dispatched using 911.
- In a non medial situation, and only if necessary, the hospital staff may dispatch the OPP.
Who Would Benefit?

- If you have a medical condition (heart condition, lung disease, diabetes)
- If you are elderly
- If you are disabled
There is no age restriction for Lifeline.
What are the Costs?
- Installation fee - $25.00
- Monthly rental rate - $30.00
All fees are payable to the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital.
